CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — 5 West Virginia airports will profit from $2.9 million in funding from the U.S. Division of Transportation.
West Virginia Democratic U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin introduced the funding Wednesday and reported it will go toward airport improvement jobs at the airports. He previously declared $1.9 million for enhancement tasks at the Martinsburg and Morgantown airports.
“West Virginia regional airports engage in a crucial role in spurring financial development by growing tourism and serving as hubs for production and other corporations,” Manchin reported in a information launch. “This funding from the American Rescue System will assistance numerous improvement initiatives at five regional airports, encouraging our regional and state economies get better from the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Manchin explained $1.1 million will go to Morgantown’s airport, wherever $1.6 million was formerly announced. An additional $626,000 goes to Shepherd Airport in Martinsburg, exactly where $350,000 was earlier declared. Jackson County airport was granted $606,000, Elkins-Randolph County airport is receiving $547,000, and Upshur County airport gets $61,000, a news release from Manchin claimed.
